Network Rail appointed GBR-Rail to deliver a more frequent ‘heavy clean’ programme for trains at its Colchester, Clacton, East Ham and Chingford depots.
The upgrade was part of a major improvements programme across its Greater Anglia network.
GBR-Rail brief was to replace and modernise each wash plant, which came with their own risks and complications.
The awkwardness of each location presented very difficult access challenges, being next to a main line with overhead electrification.
GBR-Rail worked in partnership with civil engineering specialists Geoffrey Osborne’s, who contracted GBR-Rail to dismantle and remove the redundant old wash plants.
GBR-Rail delivered bespoke replacement flail type carriage wash plants utilising the existing infrastructure and improving the train operator’s cleaning regime.
Norman Adamson, Network Rail engineering manager, said: “We were very impressed with GBR-Rail ‘can do’ attitude and the ease at which they successfully completed this challenging project.”
